Information Entered in the App

The app allows instructors to enter instructor names, program director email addresses, truck identifiers, student names, driving-time periods, completed training activities, brake-check training, Autofails training points, and instructor notes. Depending on the information entered, these records may contain information about identifiable students and their training progress.

How Information Is Stored

In the current version of Behind-the-Wheel Log, daily logs, saved past logs, instructor settings, and display preferences are stored locally on the instructor’s device. The app does not require a user account and does not transmit these records to a Behind-the-Wheel Log server or cloud database.

Email Reports

The app can prepare a daily log email for the program director using the email account configured on the instructor’s device. The instructor reviews the email draft and decides whether to send it. The app does not automatically send the email.

If the instructor sends an email, the selected report—including the recipient address and the information in the daily log—is handled by the instructor’s email provider and the recipient. Those parties’ privacy practices apply to the sent email.

Information We Do Not Use for Tracking

The current version of the app does not use advertising, behavioral tracking, or third-party analytics to track users across apps or websites. It does not sell, rent, or share training-log information for advertising or marketing purposes.

The app does not request or use device location, contacts, camera, photo library, microphone, or payment information for its current training-log features.

Your Choices and Record Management

Instructors can edit the active daily log before saving it. A saved log can be reviewed and individual saved logs can be deleted from the Past Logs section of the app. The instructor can also update the saved instructor name and program director email at any time.

Because data is stored on the device, uninstalling the app or clearing the app’s local data may remove locally stored records. Before deleting or replacing a device, the school should determine whether it needs to preserve any training records under its own policies or legal obligations. Deleting a record in the app does not retract an email report that was already sent.

Data Security

The security of locally stored information depends in part on the security controls of the instructor’s device and email account. We encourage instructors to use device passcodes, keep the operating system current, and follow the school’s record-handling procedures.

Children and Student Records

Behind-the-Wheel Log is intended for use by trucking-school personnel. Schools that enter student information are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate authority and notices for their own student-record practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app’s features or data-handling practices change. We will post the updated policy on this page and revise the effective date above.
